Fun Facts
One fact about me is that I grew up overseas! I lived in 5 different countries before I graduated high school and it instilled in me a love for the world and confidence in communicating and forming relationships with people from many different backgrounds. It also means that I am by no means a stranger to managing change as a young person going to school, and how big life changes impact learning and focus. I would love to help students navigate a new school experience with confidence.
About Me
I am a senior Environmental Studies student at Lawrence University in Wisconsin, minoring in Geosciences and Spanish. I have a wide range of experiences in the sciences and absolutely love reading and writing. Tutoring is something that I did not take advantage of in school when I needed it, and I hope to provide the kind of support and learning outlet for students that I would have benefitted from so strongly.
Experience
During my sophomore and junior year of high school, I had the great opportunity to be a part of a tutoring club at my school. I tutored elementary girls in math and reading, as well as a middle school boy in reading, as well. I additionally worked for a year in high school as an elementary track and field coach, mentoring and playing games with girls and boys aged 11-14, and have experience in small group mentoring for freshmen entering high school.
Approach
I was a strong student in most of my subjects in school, but I did tend to struggle in math and sciences. I found that there were big mental blocks and I was constantly left feeling defeated when I faced teachers who said that I "should already know this," and I would often engage in negative self-talk. My approach to tutoring is to be a positive reinforcement to students and to not assume that they should or should not know something. I approach each student individually in order to help them.
