Fun Facts

My passions include cooking, playing guitar & piano, learning and reading about everything science, watching French TV/Films, and hiking way up in the mountains. Growing up I played football, basketball, and softball until I was about 16. I am the 2nd oldest of 5 kids, and my siblings and I even though we are all adults now, still have a very close bond and all of my brothers and sisters are musicians and artists of some sort.

About Me

I am a prior 10-year Airforce Aviator on the Boeing C-17. Upon getting out of the Airforce, I became a Land Surveyor, surveying in the oilfields of Texas and North Dakota. This led me to attain my certificate in Engineering Graphics and Design: Civil Survey Drafting at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood where I also obtained my AA-Economics and an AGS-Engineering Graphics Concentration.

I am currently an Applied Mathematics Major at the University of Colorado Denver, and I have my minor in Biology requirements finished. I only need a couple more music classes to complete the music minor requirements, and I still need a few more chemistry classes to complete the chemistry minor requirements.

I am well versed in music theory, guitar and piano theory, computer automated drafting with CAD or Civil 3d, biology (botany, ecology, genetics), general chemistry, economics, accounting principles 1, land surveying, physics 1, civil engineering principles, gis, programming in R with some Python abilities, and of course mathematics up to and including Calculus 2.

Experience

As a high-achieving academic student, I have been offered tutoring jobs at CU Denver and MSU Denver. I, unfortunately, had to turn the offers down as the pay was not what one would expect for tutoring calculus. I have in the past tutored numerous hours of (hundreds of hours) of chemistry, trigonometry & pre-calculus, and "university" calculus 1.

Approach

As a child, I recognized that not everybody learns the same. I was able to see where my friends were having disconnects with the material in the 5th and 6th grades, where I would help my friends better understand addition and subtraction or multiplication and division of fractions. As I grew older I was able to hone this skill to help others better understand and succeed. I was an Instructor Loadmaster for 7 of the 10 years I was in the Airforce, where I instructed numerous soldiers on the C-

Accounting Tutoring

I took the Accounting Principles ACC 121 at Red Rocks Community College. My professor was a DU graduate in accounting, and taught at DU for many years before coming to Red Rocks. She said that we were getting the same high level accounting that DU was getting.

I received a 100% in this class as she gave some extra credit assignments which helped fill in the tiny gaps in points from a couple quizzes.

I also took accounting in high school and received an A.

College Algebra Tutoring

Math courses I've taken:

College Algebra - (C)
College Trigonometry - (99%)
Introductory Statistics - (A)
Pre-Calculus - (A)
Calculus 1 - (A)
Calculus 2 - (A)
R Mathematical Programming - (A-)

College Algebra was the first class I had ever taken in college after a 13 year gap from the time I graduated high school, and I took the class in the summer it was such a bad idea as it was so fast paced, and I honestly should have taken the math 1000 course, then went to College Algebra.

This is why I took Precalc, as normally one would not take precalculus if you have already passed college algebra and college trig, but I decided I needed a solid foundation for Calculus 1, and so I mastered the concepts of Precalc which by default is a mastery of college algebra concepts.

Pre Calculus Tutoring

Math courses I've taken:

College Algebra - (C)
College Trigonometry - (99%)
Introductory Statistics - (A)
Pre-Calculus - (A)
Calculus 1 - (A)
Calculus 2 - (A)
R Mathematical Programming - (A-)

I tutored a classmate in Calculus 1 as we were going through the course. We would meet once a week for 6 hours, or twice a week for 3 hours, this was like clockwork for the entire semester so I became really good at explaining Calc 1 tricks of the trade, and at identifying where the disconnect was, and explaining the disconnect away so that my classmate understood the concepts after each session.

Calculus 2 Tutoring

College Trigonometry - (99%)
Introductory Statistics - (A)
Pre-Calculus - (A)
Calculus 1 - (A)
Calculus 2 - (A)
R Mathematical Programming - (A-)

As a land surveyor we utilize a lot of trigonometry, so my applied trig skills are fairly high. If you want an A in Calculus, you will need to make sure your Trig skills are like this, you should be able to "Soh-Cah-Toa" in your sleep :D

Chemistry I Tutoring

Principles of Chemistry 1 with Lab - A
Principles of Chemistry 2 with Lab - A

The Intro Chem 2 class was called Intro to Organic & Biological Chemistry, we went very deep into molecules, reactions, and even had to calculate the amount of ATP you get out of the Citric Acid Cycle by for example putting in 10 ATP units to start etc.

General Chemistry 1 with Lab - B

General Chemistry starts to throw a bunch of physics at you, and so if you didn't take physics in high school like me, be prepared to study extra hard to fill in the gaps when it comes to Thermochemistry and Work and Energy etc.

I tutored a girl in my class every week for 4-6 hours on all of the basics of chemistry, as she said it had been a few years since she took it in high school. We used to balance tons of equations, did hundreds of molar conversion and combustion and mole fraction problems, of course lots of thermal chem and bomb-calorimetry problems, along with all of the labs, how to type the way the university would like you to type reports, etc.

Macro Economics Tutoring

I started at University of Colorado Denver as a pre-engineering major, and so I took

Macro Economics - (B)
Micro Economics - (B)

I am no subject matter expert in economics, but in High School I did win a prize in the 9th grade as part of a team where we played the stock market with fake money, but then we calculated our net profit and gains each month for the entire semester, and our team had the most profit at the end and we were put in our town newspaper. Then took the "big boy" economics as a 12th grader.

General Botany - (C)

Botany was the hardest of all of the biology classes that I have taken thus far. Plants have different sex cycles than what we are used to from "normal biology" aka animal biology, which is what we are all taught mitosis and meiosis from. But, plants have meiosis before mitosis, and some do both simultaneously, and some self fertilize, and so there is a lot. But for standard Biology, I am a Bio minor and after this fall 2023 semester I will take my final Biology class at CU Denver classed Flora of Colorado - Biology 4345

Physics Tutoring

General Physics 1 - (B)

I have taken only one physics class, but it was calculus based, and the problem sets were extraordinarily hard. I was in there with students who had just graduated high school, and they thought cuz they got an A in high school physics that their life would be "gravy" at Gen Physics 1, but they were quickly humbled as even the easy problems in high school like Newtonian Mechanics and Kinematics are much harder and we involve calculus as we take the derivative so we know the instant value for velocity or position or acceleration etc.

AP Physics Tutoring

As an instructor Loadmaster on the Boeing C-17 for 7 years, and a Land Surveying Party Chief who taught a few different people to be land surveyors, I understand how to teach not only "subjects," but how to better memorize things, how to utilize mnemonics, how to be better organized, how to organize your thoughts and ideas, how to tackle your homework, how to eat better, sleep better, and overall be the best healthiest smartest version of yourself to help you reach your maximum potential.

Arts Tutoring

I love to draw utilizing mathematics, also known as sacred geometry like flower of life, dodecahedrons, as well as making my own music which looks like art at times, along with playing the guitar and piano as I believe elementary and middle schoolers should be taught that music is art. I also am a certified Engineering Graphics Technician, and the architectural drafting class I took I designed a castle and the renderings I took of the inside look like art, because technically engineering blueprints and renderings are a form of art as well.

Middle School Math Tutoring

I am well versed in mathematics, but I also know how to quote un quote "dumb things down," as I understand that everybody needs a different perspective some times to fully grasp concepts, especially hard abstract ideas like math, science, technology, design, art, and engineering.

Elementary Math Tutoring

I would be able to connect to the mind of an elementary student to show them the basics and "tricks of the trade" so to speak, as well as teaching the method that the teacher wants taught, but, I do think that kids need to see multiple angles or different methods to help solidify the concepts in their minds.

I have limited Python programming under my belt, and I am good with basic syntax up to and including lists, arrays, matrices, loops, dictionaries, as well as running small programs like guess the number game, or tic tac toe, etc.

Revit Tutoring

Architectural Revit - (A)

I took Revit as in the Engineering Graphics program at Red Rocks Community College, you are forced to take classes from other design platforms like Architectural, Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical drafting.

Video Production Tutoring

I have created videos in Adobe, but nowadays I prefer the free mac iMovie app that makes movies almost as cool as Adobe.

R Programming Tutoring

Math 2520 - (A-) R Programming

R programming is an amazing mathematical, "mostly statistical" and data programming platform. R is similar to SAS, but recently R was purchased by Python, and I noticed many similarities in the syntax between Python and R, not all syntax, but some, but then of course there was also very large syntax differences at times, for example in R, an indentation doesn't matter in terms of syntax, whereas in Python indentations are used to build for oops, if else statements etc. Programming is not my favorite thing in the world, like just folding laundry, but it is something that I understand well and I am fairly good at, just like folding shirts :D

Basic Computer Skills Tutoring

I'm a certified Engineering Graphics Technician who is proficient in AutoCad and R Programming. As well as Logic X Pro and building power points used to be my forte in the Air Force where I would give 10-15 minute lectures at times on Aircraft systems.

But for standard Biology, I am a Bio minor and after this fall 2023 semester I will take my final Biology class at CU Denver classed Flora of Colorado - Biology 4345

Business Tutoring

I own my business, it is a small CBD Oil (zero thc) manufacturing and retail business. I have over 15 business licenses in order to legally operate and I had to jump through immense hoops as my business is hemp related, which regulations are loosening, but still very strict and if you operate without a license you literally will get put in jail.

I was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America aka FBLA in highschool, and I have taken a plethora of business classes.

Economics Tutoring

I started at University of Colorado Denver as a pre-engineering major, and so I took

Macro Economics - (B)
Micro Economics - (B)

I am no subject matter expert in economics, but in High School I did win a prize in the 9th grade as part of a team where we played the stock market with fake money, but then we calculated our net profit and gains each month for the entire semester, and our team had the most profit at the end and we were put in our town newspaper. Then took the "big boy" economics as a 12th grader.

English Tutoring

English Composition 1 - (100%)
English Composition 2 - (99%)

As an avid math lover, I have always loathed grammar and writing, but I have always been sort of good at it, it's just I never quite liked it until I started writing papers about music, and science. This made me master the different styles of Chicago, MLA, APA, and Science and the art of rhetoric is pretty cool as rhetoric just like mathematics is hidden all around us in disguise.

I also took creative writing in high school and received a B.

French Tutoring

French 2 - (A)

I skipped over French 1, because I lived in Morocco for 10 months, where I utilized beginning French everyday, on top of watching tons of French TV and Movies. I am by no means fluent, and I am not even a "level 2" speaker, but I am definitely certified level 1 in reading, writing, grammar and comprehension.

Nutrition Tutoring

10 year Air Force Veteran

I have taken numerous classes in the Air Force for nutrition, as well as seminars, and training. In Intro to Organic and Biological Chemistry, we dive deep into the molecules that make up food i.e. fats or triglycerides, starches, proteins etc. I am a vegetarian now for the past 3.5 years now, but wasn't for 35 years before that. I have been cooking since I was 7 years old, and my first job (aside from mowing lawns) was at a hometown burger joint, where we would make our patties by hand and have fish fries every weekend and served things like chef salads and chopped philly steak sandwhiches and thick fresh churned milk shakes. None of which are that healthy :D but still we all deserve a cheat day one a week!

Religion Tutoring

World Religions - (A)

I took world religions at University of Colorado Denver. I was born Catholic, raised as a Baptist turned Non-denominational, who after Biology class in High School turned Agnostic for about 17 years until I was 30 and then I turned into a believer of God, but I am no longer any sort of "sect" or "religion" so to speak. I follow bits and pieces of all religions to try and be the best "God Fearing" person that I can be. I own 2 Korans (Qurans, one is in French!), a quite expensive original 1600's text "Oxford Bible" that has the original Apocalyptica in it, as well as the Talmud, Book of Enoch, Corpus Hermeticum, Book of The Dead (Egyptian and Tibetan), Bhagavad Gita, Tipitaka, as well as numerous books on Alchemy, Herbology, and Mysticism, Numerology White Magic etc. I believe in being able to have conversations of different doctrines while respecting the text even if you don't quite believe in all of the dogma presented.

German Tutoring

I took German 1 and German 2 in high school as I was born in Frankfurt Germany due to my Dad being in the Army and stationed in Wiesbaden. So, even though I came to the U.S. as a baby, I have always had a special place in my heart for Deutsch, especially as I am half German, and half Native American. In the Airforce, we would travel to Germany almost monthly for missions, and so I would watch German TV and hone my skills, but this has been 10 years ago. Now I just have Duolingo which I mostly focus on French, but when I am tired of French or want a change of scenery I switch to German or Spanish.

Social Studies Tutoring

Social Studies and Geography were my favorite subjects as an elementary schooler. I remember that I used to love to see pictures of other kids and cultures from across the world, and learn about the rivers and mountains and lakes and cities and governments. My favorite was always studying the maps, I always used to think there is so much information being shown to us, but most people just see a map as a map, nothing special, whereas I think maps are some of the coolest things about math and science to exist!

Spanish Tutoring

I took Spanish in Middle School, and also I worked at restaurants all throughout high school where i utilized spanish, and my Grandma was spanish, but she didn't teach any of us or her kids Spanish. My ex wife of 7 years was a Nanny from Bogota Colombia, and so I would hear her speak Spanish every day for years and we would watch "Novellas" together with spanish subtitles.

ASVAB Tutoring

I got an 86 on the ASVAB, not exceptionally high but still high enough to be proud as I took the test a year after graduating high school, and I walked into the MEPPS with literal zero preparation. I know what the test entails and I can help to better you obtain a better score, as in the Air Force your ASVAB score dictates which jobs you are able to apply for.
