Fun fact - I just moved to Denver from NYC with my adorable German Shepherd! I love learning and teaching young and older learners new skills :) I love to attend sports games - primarily hockey and basketball, as well as am an avid follower of vogue and runway fashion. I enjoy reading science fiction books, the NYT’s, Smithsonian and am highly fascinated by space!

I ride horses, love taking my shepherd Cleo to the park to play frisbee, and enjoy spending time with family and friends :)

About Me

My name is Alex and I’m from NYC. I am currently a part-time systems and network engineer at Thrive Fitness - and have worked there for the past 2.5 years. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in science/colorado/denver">Computer Science from Indiana University - bloomington, and am in the process of completing a graduate degree in Engineering.

I am well versed in various elementary, middle, and high school subjects, as well as in providing exam-prep and study skills for the math and verbal sections of the SAT exam, as well as the math, verbal, and science sections of the ACT exams. My ACT composite score was 34/36, and SAT was 1480/1600! I have tutored a vast range of students with different learning styles - in a wide range of subjects: from the MS 365 Office Suite, Programming/scripting development, Math (Algebra, Statistics, Calculus, Business Accounting - using excel, MATLAB) - to psychology, sociology, reading and writing comprehension skills! I particularly love to teach students and adults basic to complex computer and programming skills and concepts.

I have experience a total of 12 years experience tutoring students of all ages - with both learning disabilities, autism, and ADHD. I am extremely patient, understanding, and have the ability to keep students engaged in their learning - while having a bit of fun!

I have several Microsoft, Cisco (CCNA), IBM AI Engineering, Google IT Support Professional, and several other professional certifications. Currently, I am working towards completing the last exam for the CCNP certification in security - as my ultimate goal is to become a cybersecurity network engineer, in addition to towards completing my masters degree!

Experience

I have a total of 12 years experience tutoring learners of all ages - both adolescents and adults, with both learning disabilities, autism, and ADHD. I am well versed in various elementary, middle, high school, and college subjects - from SAT and ACT exam prep - (math, verbal); the Microsoft Suite (I have several Microsoft, Cisco (CCNA), IBM and Google IT certificates); Programming/scripting development; Math (Algebra, Stats, Calc, Accounting) - to psychology; computer skills!

Approach

Given my experience tutoring students with learning disabilities, autism and ADHD, I have learned to tailor my approach to each individual's style of learning.

Thus, my approach includes adjusting the curriculum to address individual needs. When planning the first session, I will ask the students questions to ascertain their current level of understanding of a subject and then progress towards a review of the material, an opening exercise, set goals together and document the student's progress
