Fun Facts
I am passionate about teaching and learning from students what they need to move forward in their education. English literature and writing and film have been the focus of my interests. A fun fact, I am also passionate about dirt bikes and mountain bikes.
About Me
I graduated at the top of my class at CU (Phi Beta Kappa) with a degree in English and then discovered how to help students love literature and writing as much as I did and do. When I went on to earn my Master's in Humanities, I learned to appreciate film as literature. The result was the joy of sharing all of the above with my students.
Experience
As a classroom teacher, I was called upon to tutor students weekly. Many of my students had struggled with English and composition in the past and yet wanted to be successful in their junior and senior years. They wanted to challenge themselves with more demanding classes and yet were a bit apprehensive about taking a risk. I welcomed the opportunity to help them meet this challenge. My students had a 100% pass rate in AP Literature and Composition, and AP Language and Composition, both. W
Approach
My classroom or tutoring approach has been extremely successful because I ask students what they need. I engage in a conversation with them to design a learning plan that will meet their needs. It can be as simple as "I just don't get how to design a thesis statement for this essay" or as complicated as "So why does Shakespeare write in blank verse sometimes and then not in others?"
