Fun Facts
I love connecting students with science and the outdoors! I have taught non-traditional science education for more than 12 years. I also work at an aquarium and love sharing my knowledge of fish with everyone! Did you know that fish have around 130 bones just inside their heads?!
About Me
My name is Juliana Moore. I work for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as an Education and Outreach Coordinator. I recently graduated with my Master's in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation with a specialization in Wildlife Forensic Science. I have also been a Teacher's Aid for GED courses and a Teaching Assistant for undergraduates. I am passionate about healthy, balanced ecosystems and human-wildlife relationships. I love helping animals and humans peacefully coexist.
Experience
Throughout my career, I have always been teaching in some capacity. In my late teens, I led sessions at a science summer camp. In my early college days, I served as a teacher's aide for GED courses. During graduate school, I took on a Teaching Assistantship and tutored undergraduates in the subject of Marine Animal Pathology. In my day job, I coordinate Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's education and outreach efforts and plan large-scale educational events.
Approach
Learning should be fun, interactive, and tailored to the student. Lessons are easier to retain when students enjoy the content and make a personal connection to the information. I love asking lots of questions and hearing the student's point of view. Asking questions gets the student thinking and helps them to draw on what they already know. I also strongly believe in letting students tell relevant stories, encouraging them to make connections, and allowing their voices to be heard.
