Fun Facts
Although I’ve been a student of languages since I was very young, I communicate most fluently with food! My Ukrainian great-grandmother not only imparted to me a desire to know many languages, but also a love of sharing my heart through cooking and baking.
About Me
I earned my Master’s degree from Harvard in Romance Languages and Literature in 2003. My specialization was French, but the program required that I study Latin and a secondary Romance Language. My secondary was Italian. I also have. a Bachelor’s degree with honors in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia.
Experience
After finishing grad school and moving from Boston to LA, I began tutoring students in French, Italian, English, and study skills through an agency that served many of LA’s most well-known families. I found my niche, however, helping children of Korean immigrant parents prepare for the college application process. Additionally, I continued tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students when I moved to Orange County in 2006. My students at that time included underserved youth.
Approach
As a student at every level, I struggled with my confidence. Even when I had a full grasp of the subject matter, I found it challenging to participate in class. Even in grad school! My approach is to connect every student I work with to their ‘inner mastery’ and the belief that they are fully capable of succeeding in this class. They can do this!
