About Me
I am a junior at Columbia University studying science/new-york/new-york">Computer Science and Anthropology and am planning on pursuing graduate studies in STS (science technology and society). Studying these two disciplines has exposed me to different ways of thinking and the bridges between them– it has also sparked my interest in making math and technology engaging to a variety of student types and interests.
Experience
During high school, I ran a club called Junior Computer Programming in which we ran weekly workshops teaching local elementary and middle school students how to use Pencilcode (a Scratch-like interface) and Processing– introducing some to Python using Codecademy.
Approach
As a student much of my success in mathematics was founded upon a love for the subject– and looking back this love was rooted in the joy of connecting old and new ideas, and new concepts back to fundamental principles (e.g. the derivative is "slope" on more than just lines). Often it seems that in learning math students are bombarded with more and more details, problems, and concepts without an overarching understanding of how they relate to each other.
