About Me
I am working on achieving my bachelor's degree in Psychology right now. Soon after, I will achieve my Master's and Psy D in Clinical Psychology. I eventually would like to have my own counseling center for young adults that includes counseling, fresno">tutoring, games, and other activities.
In the past I have tutored two girls in 5th and 7th grade in math. I have also tutored my peers in Spanish I. Currently, I am fresno">tutoring a young girl in 8th grade in Algebra I. She started with an "F" and within the first 3 weeks raised it and continues to raise her grade as we work together twice a week!
I believe that every child or teen is able to improve in an area in which they are struggling. My job is to give them the tools they need to understand the material and feel confident enough to do the work correctly on their own. I focus on teaching them how to find the correct answer by working through the problem or question out loud. Once they have it down, I have them practice by reversing our roles. The student will walk me through a problem out loud and show me how to arrive at the correct answer. It is a long process at times but this makes the strategies a little more concrete in their heads and gives them something to talk out loud when I am not around to help them in their classes. In the end, I have found the best way to handle students is to be enthusiastic, energetic, and patient with them. I have to alter my teaching to the student's strengths and weaknesses and in the end it gives them the individual attention they need to improve!
