I’m an introspective person who enjoys meditating, reading books, learning about Eastern cultures, and visiting the ISKCON temple in Houston. I’m passionate about dharmic faiths like Hinduism, specifically a few of its branches like Bhakti devotion and Advaita Vedanta philosophy. These are partially the reasons why I chose Religious Studies as my minor.
About Me
I’m a recent first-generation Hispanic college graduate with a Psychology degree who’s excited to enter the academic workforce as a tutor. I take pride in my exceptional emotional intelligence, which allows me to build rapport with students while striving to guide them toward academic success. My dream is to become a TEFL teacher abroad!
Experience
During my Forensic Psychology course at UH, I completed a month-long practicum involving tutoring a few adolescents aged 14-16 once a week in the juvenile justice system for reading interventions and English comprehension skills. This research experience gave me an insight into individual one-on-one lecturing and opened my eyes to what it’s like dealing with unresponsive students. Approach
My mission is also to enhance the learning of all students, especially those who are struggling. In grade school, I often felt like I needed a more personalized lecture to get me on track with the rest of my peers. I remember what it felt like to care about school enough to want to pass, but not have the discipline, willpower, or resilience to put in the effort to study.
