Fun Facts
I love to play sports and I am very competitive, so when I received my sign name from the Deaf community, the sign given to me was the same sign for "Sports." I also taught my dog some sign language!
About Me
I am fluent in ASL and I started learning when I was in high school on my own, when I moved to Austin, Texas at 21 years old, I was lucky enough to make a lot of friends who helped me become fluent. I am also Hard of Hearing so I think that helped me pick up the visual language much quicker.
Experience
I have always worked with children, and I was a teacher for young elementary kids at a Montessori school for a time, but my passion was working with students who have disabilities and behavioral issues.
Approach
As a young student, I thrived in school with visual aids and hands-on activities, but I noticed I was having trouble hearing every word my teachers would say. So when I went to Gallaudet University for my undergrad, my entire education was in American Sign Language, and I ended up graduating Summa Cum Laude with Honors. Everyone learns differently, so the best way to see a student thrive is to meet them where they are, not teaching everyone using the same method.
