Fun Facts
I have a love for animals, namely dogs, but have recently discovered how fun cats can be! Of my five children, only one still lives at home. The others who have left college also left me their zoo. This includes a dog, 3 cats, and 2 lizards that I take care of daily. I love a lively house and these pets have become the energy of our home!
About Me
I am a certified teacher, school counselor, and practicing child therapist who is passionate about the health and well-being of children. I believe that children's mental health is positively impacted by academic success and there is a strong correlation to self-confidence when children are given the correct learning supports. I have 5 children of my own as well as an extensive education and background in education. I recently completed my master's degree in school counseling and practice play therapy part-time in Keller.
Experience
In addition to over ten years in a classroom setting, I have certifications in English as a Second Language (ESL), and TSR (The Science of Reading) via the TEA, and currently working on my Play Therapy certification through the University of North Texas. My classroom experience includes education/texas/fort-worth">Special Education, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade. I have also taught preschool ages 2 - 4 prior to entering the classroom.
Approach
My approach is very much one of relationships. I believe that all stakeholders play an important role in a child's life and when interacting with those involved, such as teachers and parents, the highest achievement can happen. As a teacher, I would work closely with parents to communicate and provide support where needed academically, emotionally, and socially. I truly believe it takes a village and providing a strong place of safety where children can learn at their level is vital to success
