Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I can tutor reading comprehension because I was a preschool teacher as well as an elementary teaching assistant in High School. I have helped children by having them read a short passage and answer some questions to see if they comprehended. If they are having a hard time, we will break it down sentence by sentence or come up with a game to engage them.

Homework Coach Tutoring

Part of my job tutoring children in the past has been homework coaching. To do this the child and I will set goals, and reward systems like stickers or stamps are used to help the child stay engaged, organized, and on task. Other rewards can be discussed with parents if the child needs extra assistance with larger goal-setting.

Math Tutoring

As a college graduate, I have taken math courses up to the undergraduate calculus and statistics level. In elementary school tutoring, I have helped children with timed math facts using engaging worksheets and reward systems. I will also implement counting games to help children understand how and why math works before moving on to number problems on paper.

Reading Tutoring

When I was an elementary teaching assistant I led small reading groups with children. We worked on sight words, and reading comprehension together. I also tutored a 5th grader and led a small book club where we read a chapter book and for every chapter, we did activities to engage reading comprehension skills and critical thinking.

Science Tutoring

Working as a preschool teacher I led small group science experiments with my students. As an elementary teaching assistant, I helped students with science reading and homework. This included topics like matter, ecosystems, and life cycles. I also took biology and chemistry at the collegiate level so I have a wide understanding of the sciences.

Social Studies Tutoring

From state history to landmarks to government, I can help your student read, draw, and write to understand social studies. As an elementary teaching assistant, I loved helping students with projects and smaller assignments that engaged them to understand history.

Study Skills Tutoring

If a child is struggling with study skills or needs a boost of encouragement, I will work with them to set goals and expectations. We will foster a fun environment that challenges them but does not push them to be discouraged. I am big on growth and individual pacing for each student I work with. We will implement growth mindset to teach them they can stay on task and succeed with each test or assignment.

Writing Tutoring

I have always loved writing. Not only for myself but to read the writing projects of my students. It allows them to be creative with their education and I would love to encourage your student to use their imagination in their creative writing process. When it comes to conventions and grammar or report-style writing, I will foster an environment that teaches the student how to be accurate and concise to get their point across. With previous students, we have implemented worksheets and activities that teach about grammar as a building block for larger writing projects.
