Fun Facts

Peace and Abundance! I am a born and raised Memphian well rooted in the city with a bug for travel. My first trip abroad was at 17 to Rome, Greece, Pompeii, and Athens. It was my first time on a plane and my first time out of the country. I even got to go with two teachers I adored and several other students from my school. Along with traveling for cultural exposure, I travel for musical experiences. I have been to 4 music festivals. See if you can guess which ones by our first session.

About Me

I am a 6th and 7th grade English Language Arts Educator. I specialize in grammar and comprehension techniques. I put a lot of emphasis on correct grammar usage as well as sentence structure to ensure when the work is completed it is done correctly. I am patient and willing to work with any student who needs my assistance. I also have experience as a Substitute and a City Year. Hopefully

Experience

Pre-pandemic, I had the opportunity to be a City Year at Humes Middle School in 2019. I also worked at the TN State Capitol as a Legislative intern in 2020. In 2021 I was a contract Substitute Teacher for Enriched Schools. Most recently in 2023, I was a Facilitator at BRIDGES USA 7-10 graders Summer Conference. I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor and while in the process being able to share the knowledge I gain. I'm excited to work with Frog Tutoring and see where this next path leads.

Approach

I have always had the gift of gab and understanding. When I first entered the school system at 19 and realized the comfort and openness middle schoolers had with me; I was shocked but glad. I have only now years later been able to accept it as a calling and realize the best gifts are the ones that help others. In the same spirit of change, my time and gifts are linked to the development and treatment of human beings. Through patience, encouragement, and hard work we can accomplish anything.

Writing Tutoring

I have always been a strong creative thinker and writer. I know what questions to ask to empower students to wonder about the right components when locating answers. Writing comes with certainty and unwavering support for what is being presented. As the author(s) if there isn't a firm belief in what is being written down its quality could struggle. My communications degree is a great indicator of my dedication to writing and connecting.

Communication Tutoring

My BA is in communications with a focus in Film & Video Production, along with my second Major being African American Studies. Both fields require a degree of truth seeking and putting in or taking out biasness for reality-based results. This requires an open understanding to the transference of information between not only people and media but all aspects of human connection.

English Tutoring

English, what a trickster. I am qualified for this subject due to my practice as a poet and studies from University. My dissertation was 18 pages completely surrounding self-care in women of African descent. I mention this to highlight my practice and respect for what language can help us interpret. Words can mean many things all at once and an understanding in how they work or where to learn what they mean effectively is key.

Reading Tutoring

I started as a 7th grade History mentor/tutor and paused as a high school substitute teacher. My classroom duties were to tutor a select group of individuals that could not keep up whether it be related to behavioral or comprehension setbacks. The students trusted my presence. Therefore, I was able to ask questions to bring out the problem without a lingering feeling of embarrassment or judgement. I understand the position they are in and genuinely focus on the root. Whether it be phonics, speed, or something else.

History Tutoring

History is a subject for sore eyes. My passions don't veer to far apart and who we once were into who we are today is always a hot topic in my mind. My first intro into tutoring was in a 7th grade history class where I was challenged with guiding a group of students to keep up with Genghis Khan's Legacy. However a couple could not read. Harrowing at first but exciting the next when with practice and patience while working on phonics and word tense until the assignment was done.
