Fun Facts
I am an avid reader. You will never find me very far from my Kindle. I read anything from non-fiction books on politics to the newest Jodi Picoult novel. I am also not really into sports, except for skiing. I have been skiing since I was 5 and even won a gold medal in a ski competition. One of the things you'll learn first about me is that I love information and like to collect facts.
About Me
I recently graduated from connecticut-college">Connecticut College with a major in government and a minor in education and architectural studies. I plan to go to graduate school to get a masters in education policy and eventually work on education reform. I am a natural leader and was an activate participant in my student government and the president of the Jewish student organization in college.
As an education minor working on completing my elementary teaching certificate, I was a volunteer washington-dc">tutor in the local elementary schools throughout my college career. There I worked one on one with students in math and reading. This was excellent preparation for the semester that I spent as a full time student teacher in a local third grade classroom. I find a lot of joy in helping students meet their highest expectations and I can't wait to see the happiness on a student's face when they master a difficult problem.
I was always a quick study, but from a very young age I was aware that student around me sometimes needed a little more explanation to understand a concept. I often found myself in the position of helping other students explain their confusion to the teacher and quickly other students began to turn to me for help which I was more than happy to provide. I like working one on one with students because I know that they are capable of understanding the concepts they find confusing. After asking the student a few questions I can often pinpoint the problem and work with them to move past their road blocks, not on just that questions but on all related questions.
Experience
I started volunteering as a washington-dc">tutor in middle school and continued through high school. My love of education continued in college where I minored in education. I also tutored in the local elementary schools all throughout college and eventually student taught full time for a semester. During this time I tutored students who were struggling in both math and english. I would love to use these skills to help even more students that need assistance!
Approach
I have always been a natural teacher. In school I was often able to understand students confusion and easily answer their questions. This has continued since I began washington-dc">tutoring. The first thing I do when I get a new student is have a conversation with them to really pinpoint what their sticking point is. Every student is different and therefore every washington-dc">tutoring situation is different. I am a student centered washington-dc">tutor who will do whatever it takes to help a student accomplish their goals.
