Fun Facts

One fun fact about me is that anyone who knows me knows that I love "hospitality". I am in my happy place when I'm planning and preparing for special events for friends and family. I love making people feel welcomed and comfortable during those special events and social/family gatherings. I am also proud to be "Dog Mom" to two Yorkies who are 1 and 15 years old.

About Me

I currently work as an Instructor/Tutor at an elementary school in the Newport News District. I assist teachers as a co-teacher in the whole group setting and I instruct small groups outside of the whole group setting, providing extra literacy and math support for designated students. In this position, I build positive relationships with students helping them to feel more comfortable with approaching studies that they may consider to be difficult. I am also responsible for the daily documentation of student's progress that teachers, administrators, and parents have access to.

Experience

I have over twenty-five years of combined experience in case management, administration, and in the education fields including twelve years in higher education.

Approach

As a degreed social worker and having experience working with at-risk populations, my approach to working with anyone is to meet that person where they are and most importantly, work to build positive and trusting relationships with those you are working with. In my experiences of teaching, a student must trust you to learn from you and it makes for a more comfortable and fun environment for learning.
