Fun Facts

I love sushi. If my wallet permitted, I would eat it every day- especially Salmon.

I was first introduced to it when my previous Japanese language teacher invited the class to meet at a sushi restaurant for our last session. It was a little disconcerting to take that first bite of raw fish. The flavor and texture won me over. I have been a regular sushi customer ever since.

About Me

After graduating from Tucson Magnet High School in 2003, I traveled cross-country to Knoxville, TN where I lived briefly before returning to Tucson to pursue higher education. I spent most of my college career working full-time and handling a full-time class schedule. In 2011, I received two Associate’s degrees, an AA in Liberal Arts and an AAS in Digital Arts: Animation, from Pima Community College. I am currently working on a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Intermedia at Arizona State University. After my BFA, I plan to pursue a Master’s in Creative Writing.

While attending my previous college, I worked as a writing phoenix">tutor in their learning center. This was my first experience as a phoenix">tutor and I loved it. I met with college students one-on-one and helped them develop stronger writing skills so they felt more confident about their assignments and essays. I also worked as office support for the Upward Bound Program. Upward Bound works with high school students to improve their academics and help them graduate. I was able to be a mentor for high school students in the program and felt a sense of pride at helping them accomplish their goals.

It can be frustrating to not grasp something when it seems everyone around you has no problem with it. It can also feel embarrassing to ask about something you don’t understand. A statement like, “There are no stupid questions,” may sound cliché, but I bring that to all of my phoenix">tutoring sessions. The only way to learn is to ask questions. I am very patient and eager to help someone develop stronger academic skills and a better understanding about a subject.
