Fun Facts

I love being active from running to hiking to yoga. I used to teach Zumba and have competed internationally in the sport of racewalking.

I also love to volunteer and make a difference in my community. I have volunteered in hospitals, free health clinics, and other non-profit organizations.

About Me

I recently graduated with a Masters in Public Health in record time. It is typically a 2 year program and I completed it in 1.5 years with a 3.73 GPA. As an undergraduate students I not only completed a challenging major, but I was the only one of the class of 2010 to have completed the honors program at my University. Furthermore, I was recognized as an outstanding graduate at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Class of 2010. I also have taken a number of standardized tests including the MCAT, DAT, and GRE.

I was selected my sophomore year to lead small group, general chemistry discussion groups; essentially, I served as a chemistry TA for three years during my undergraduate studies. Each semester I was assigned 8-10 students. The most rewarding experience was when students when inform me that concepts were solidified that previously seemed confusing or impossible. In addition to leading discussion groups, I tutored students in chemistry, as well. Currently, I tucson">tutor a student in high school algebra. I thoroughly enjoy tucson">tutoring science and math.

I believe that everyone had a different learning style and that one explanation does not fit for every student. When I tucson">tutor, I ensure that I explain a concept in multiple ways to ensure understanding. I ensure that students understand basic concepts before moving on to more arduous concepts. I also believe that students learn from trying to solve problems for his or herself. My goal is to provide guidance, but my role is to ensure that the student can not only understand the answer, but can replicate the problem-solving process.

Experience

As an undergraduate student at UW-Parkside, I was chosen by the chair of the chemistry department to serve as both a tucson">tutor and a leader for several Chemistry 101 and 102 Discussion Sections. I continued to tucson">tutor and lead discussion sections throughout my undergraduate studies. Each semester, I was assigned six to seven students per discussion section. It was rewarding to see students grasp a complex or arduous concept. More recently, I have tutored high school students in algebra II.

Approach

I understand that students have multiple learning styles and focus on helping students to learn in a means easiest to him or her. I have worked with psychologists to understand how the human brain input and outputs information. I know that some learn better by explanations and others learn better by trial and error. I believe in positive reinforcement and ensuring the student can problem solve for him or herself to be successful in the classroom. My role is to guide the student to success.
