Fun Facts
I was born in Edmonton, in the Canadian province of Alberta. When I moved to the states I took up the piano and soccer (both remain passionate hobbies).
About Me
I hold a B.A. in Classics with a minor in Latin from Trinity University. In the Fall I will be attending St. Mary's School of Law to earn my Juris Doctor. I hope to further explore the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG) while attending law school and eventually pursue a career as an attorney for the United States Air Force.
During my Senior year at Trinity I held the presidential position for our local chapter of the service honor society Mortar Board. Our main focus was literacy, and we volunteered our time most weekends at local libraries offering tutoring sessions. Through this work I was recruited by Access to Excellence and accepted a position as an academic tutor. While at Access to Excellence, I handled k-12 and post-secondary clients in all subject fields as well as helming their test prep division.
My whole family is in education: parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents...everyone. Consequently I was raised around myriad teaching styles, and distilled from these a distinct focus on what I call "student spark." It's that indefinable moment when the student first celebrates her thirst for learning. Plutarch once said that "the mind is not a candle to be lit, but a fire to be kindled" and my approach to tutoring revolves around showing my tutee the joy of this kindling process.
