Fun Facts
I am a composer and guitarist of thirteen years; music is very much my passion. I grew up in Chicago, moved to New York for school, and have been living in NYC since. I lead a band that actively performs and records, and compose for other ensembles and projects. I love being able to teach for a living. Outside of work and music, I love to cook, travel, spend time with my girlfriend, and work with computers.
About Me
I have worked as a chicago">tutor and educator in various settings, both through agencies and my own freelance work. In Chicago I worked as an SAT chicago">tutor during summers for families in my neighborhood. In New York, through the Ivy Bound, Smartsitting, and Champion Learning Center networks, I have tutored middle school and high school aged students in math (up to the Algebra I, Geometry, and Intro Statistics level), SAT subjects, and reading and writing (i.e. essay writing and reading-comprehension/illinois/chicago">reading comprehension). I also instruct in music theory, music history, American History, and guitar performance.
Outside of chicago">tutoring, I have been involved in various positions as an educator. As Director of Operations and Engineering at WCKR 89.9 FM NY, I had many opportunities for working with and teaching young people. As the lead radio instructor I was responsible for training incoming members. Additionally, I helped facilitate the "Youth Mic" program, which allowed Harlem youth to produce and air their own radio programs while educating them on radio and music technology.
I have also participated in the Peer Advisory Leader program at Walter Payton College Prep in Chicago where I was a mentor for a freshmen high school class, teaching life and study skills on a weekly basis. At YMCA Camp Fuller in Rhode Island, I participated in the Leadership Development program in addition to serving as a counselor-in-training where I coordinated activities for large groups of children.
