Fun Facts

My main areas of interest include: anything related to mathematics, world history and archaeology, and urban exploration on my bike. I have three (retired) middle school teachers in my family (Mom, aunt, uncle). I wish I could speak a foreign language.

About Me

I am an experienced software developer with a strong background in mathematics, engineering and science.

I graduated with high scholastic honors from the Colorado School of Mines, which solidified my science and mathematical mindset.

My dream job would be to help young people explore their passions for learning.

I see a benefit to society whenever citizens are curious. I believe that students who are exposed to a variety of learning opportunities are more likely to lead fulfilling lives.

Experience

I have been tutoring formally and informally for a long time.
In college I earned spending money helping some of my classmates with Calculus and Linear Algebra.

I volunteered as a tutor helping Junior High students who wanted to get into AP classes in high school, for the Denver Public Schools.

I've worked with all ages and abilities: From a 4th grader with ADHD to biology undergraduates needing to pass calculus for non-majors.

Approach

Whenever I am introducing a new concept to a student, I try to incorporate visual components and real-world applications. I also like to keep things relaxed with humor whenever possible.

I emphasize that mistakes are not the end of the world, and that they can be handled by staying organized, showing your work, and taking your time.

Often I will guide discussions to allow the student to enlighten me on some aspect of the topic and suggest that they would be a good teacher or tutor themselves.
