Fun Facts

My first words were “Look at the White Pine”. I’m fairly certain those words could only come because my dad, a forester in a very small mining town in northern Minnesota, taught me how to speak by pointing out trees, plants, and their names. I’m also fairly certain they sprung from my lips because his parents owned a mile of lakeshore on Caribou south of the BWCA. Growing up I spent a lot of time surrounded by vast green forests and cold clear lakes.

About Me

I'm currently leading a small group of photographers documenting climate change/adaptations/remediation in the St. Croix Watershed. It's a 1-year project with several scientists from the Science Museum and Wild Rivers Conservancy advising us. As a group we have wildlife, forests, people and drone photographers capturing adaptations by the watershed and those groups and people assisting with the adaptions.

Experience

I have 15 + years of experience as a photographer and digital editing. I work mainly in Photoshop and Lightroom with Borix FX, Nik, and other filtering software. My editing interests are traditional & composite images in botanical, landscapes and climate change. To see my work, please go to my website cynthiadickinson.com.
As an undergraduate at the UofMN Mpls. I assisted the professors with Welded Sculptures, Cast Iron & Bronze Sculptures. At Oxbow and the Chicago Art Institute.

Approach

I've had a very awesome mentor for the past 8 years. He's taught me quite a bit about creativity - how to open yourself up to see and how to edit with an open mind. Not once has he told me an image was bad - it's always been that I should try this or I've gone a little too far. Back up he will say.
