About Me
I graduated from Yale University in 2019 with a focus in English literature and writing. Throughout my time there, it was the teachers that made the biggest impact on me, and I want to pass on the favor to other kids, especially when it comes to learning to analyze literature and learning how to write a good essay!
Experience
I have 5+ years of teaching experience, and have tutored kids from 3rd grade through junior year in high school, also as part of National Honors Society, so I'm very flexible with age and subject matter.
I currently teach students through multiple programs from middle school through high school ages, focusing on one on one tutoring as well as running literature analysis classes.
I have helped many students with their college applications, and several received Ivy League acceptances.
Approach
For younger kids, I want to help teach them methods of how to learn the material independently, and what methods of problem solving makes the most sense to them. This applies no matter what age you are: I want to help provide support to help you understand the material and have it make sense to you, which is what my favorite teachers did for me. English Tutoring
B.A. in English from Yale University. My major and thesis focused on English literature, English literature analysis, comparison, and rhetorical techniques.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
My classes throughout college focused on consuming large amounts of literature and providing analyses in a short amount of time. I have worked with college students on this as well as many students on the AP level, and currently run classes focused in reading comprehension.
Study Skills Tutoring
I have worked with many students, particularly over COVID, on how to set up their own independent study schedule to maximize success. To me, this is about understanding how to break down your assignments and set smaller, achievable goals for yourself with clear deadlines.
Writing Tutoring
I have taught several Creative Writing classes, and had enough credits to add on a Creative Writing specialization within my English major. I have had work published professionally and showcased regionally and in New York City. I have worked with students on how to make different styles of writing, clear, concise, and effective for over four years now (and have a particular interest in college essay editing as well).
Literature Tutoring
My thesis focused in South African literature, and compared two novels uses of political allegory and satire as methods of societal critique. I am well versed in working with literature of all levels, from elementary to adult level, and working with students on their own analysis.
AP English Tutoring
I took both AP English Literature and AP English Language, and received a 5 on both AP tests. I have previously worked many students to help them prepare for these exams.
History Tutoring
I received As in all my high school history classes, and have a particular fondness for this subject matter. With its parallels to English, I am versed at helping students breaking down and understanding timelines, and unpacking larger political implications of historical events.
AP History Tutoring
I took AP European History, AP US History, AP Government, and AP Macroeconomics. I received 5s on all these AP Exams. I know how to break down the plethora of information to make it easier to memorize.
Spanish I Tutoring
I took Spanish all through high school, and received a 5 on the AP Spanish Language Exam. I also took a top level Spanish Literature course upon starting at Yale. I have previously taught elementary - high school students in Spanish I, both as an independent teacher and through National Honors Society.
Writing Advance Tutoring
I received several Writing prizes during my time at high school, and also was the Assistant Editor in Chief of my school's newspaper. I have taught several Creative Writing classes, and had enough credits to add on a Creative Writing specialization within my Yale English major. SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring
I received an 800 on the SAT Writing / Verbal Section. I took both the SAT and ACT and know how to help students prepare for this particular test. I have specialized in SAT / ACT prep with students previously.
SAT Reading Tutoring
I received a 750 on the SAT Reading Section, and a 35 on the ACT English Section. I know how to help students understand what the test is asking and how to best analyze for the answers. The SAT requires more thorough analysis than the ACT, and my literature background allows me to help students navigate this.
SAT English Tutoring
I also received a 750 on the SAT English section. This section requires an understanding of the type of questions being asked, and learning the skills to find the answers quickly within large blocks of text. You have to know what they're looking for, and I am able to help my students navigate this process.
Homework Coach Tutoring
I have taught classes with students ages 6-8 grade, and helping them learn how to manage work and time management is a key part of it. Especially in terms of reading and writing assignments, an essential element to success is making sure the amount of work, especially reading, is manageable - that they are taking time to understand rather than skim.
Reading Tutoring
I have taught children from kindergarten through fifth grade reading skills and comprehension fo rover 5 years. This ranges from one on one tutoring to larger classes with planned curriculum. I focus on giving each student the individual support they need.
ACT English Tutoring
I received a 750 on the SAT Reading Section, and a 35 on the ACT English Section. I know how to help students understand what the test is asking and how to best analyze for the answers. ACT English is largely about learning the structure of the section as a whole, and learning the pattern of specific questions, so you can learn how to find answers faster and more accurately.
