Fun Facts

I have a beautiful cat named Ruby and love to run 5ks in my spare time. If it's a beautiful day you may also see me in my garden trying to get it all sorted (the work is never quite done).

About Me

My journey started early in life with a love of helping others reach their own goals. In college I couldn't quite figure out what I wanted to do; after the help of a counselor and many years of contemplating, I received my degrees in Human Services and Psychology. After this, I quickly went to work with youth as a general resource in juvenile justice where I was a night aid turned teacher after a shortage (odd, I know). Having roughly 10 in-home youth with one teacher (me) was quite a culture shock- but I loved it. Grades anywhere from 3-GED needed an education, a good one, not one where they were looked over, they already may have felt enough of that. Individualized plans were made, dedication brought, and I saw youth after youth now reading from a 3rd-grade level finally feeling proud of themselves of their progress and reading at their high school level (and many other areas of study). I rushed to get my education for them; certified by Teachers of Tomorrow I knew how to help them. I sat with them, we talked, I heard their goals, and we made a plan together. Now certified in K-6 General ED, K-12 exceptional learning, and GED completion, I'm here to help because no child should feel alone in their journey. It's alright if we learn differently that makes us amazing, not a "bad" learner. IEP, General ED, GED, SAT, and specialist in Core Cirriculum experience.

Experience

Three years of specialized learning, two years of direct counseling (and counting), IEP, General ED, and specialist in Core Cirriculum.

Approach

The approach I see that is most successful has always been helping a student feel welcome to make mistakes. That is how we all learn, we make a mistake, we get (hopefully helpful) feedback, and we learn. Individualizing education on what they want for themselves and their learning styles brings the best results.
