Fun Facts

One unusual thing about me is that I started learning my first foreign language at age 8. Since then, I have studied four other languages, two with completely different alphabets from English. I love learning languages, and while I am not fluent, I can carry on short conversations in Spanish, German, and French.

About Me

I am a retired education/texas/arlington">special education and general education teacher. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the securities industry and part of my job was to educate new hires and the leadership teams of member companies. My retirement came shortly before the pandemic and when the lockdowns were lifted, I was ready to get back to working with people in productive and supportive ways.

Experience

I began my teaching career teaching adults at Tarrant County College. When I moved to K-12, I started in education/texas/arlington">special education and, after about 10 years, moved to general education. In both settings, I was often leading self-contained classrooms. Being responsible for teaching all subjects prepared me well for tutoring. Through a mutual acquaintance, I was introduced to a family who wanted a tutor for their two children. Approach

I have always loved learning, even when I have no practical use for the knowledge. And I am very good at explaining things. When I encounter a student who is hesitant or resistant to a certain subject, I give them just a little control. I ask them to try reading (or whatever they don't like) with me for a few minutes. When they know they have a limited time and can tell me when they want to stop, it lessens the anxiety so they can focus on the subject instead of worrying about fai
