Fun Facts

One fun fact is I recently participated in my first academic conference at Duke University this July! I also play the guitar and piano and work on my scholarship and creative writing ventures in my free time.

About Me

I recently moved home to Charlotte from Washington D.C., and I am currently finishing my graduate degree at GWU remotely. My long-term career goals include pursuing a PhD. and research // teaching in higher education, but I also hope to pursue public policy and political advocacy opportunities. While more 'personal', I also hope to find a second career as a fiction author, and I feel this side of myself aids the tutoring process insofar as I can connect students to their work creatively.

Experience

My primary tutoring and teaching experience comes from the past two years as a graduate assistant at GWU. I typically completed half of the total grading, some coursework planning, and the in-person teaching of four classes across four semesters. Classes were typically 25-35 students, many with diverse identities, backgrounds, and academic needs. I conducted weekly office hours and additional tutoring sessions for students along with my other duties.

Approach

My approach to teaching and curriculum is progressive and student-centered, attempting to engage students with particular learning outcomes through subject-based curricula, but also through inter- and transdisciplinary problem-solving. With my background in philosophy, I have found the use of thought experiments, metaphor & analogy, and (guided) logical reasoning to be very helpful for students having difficulty with their curricula or class pedagogy.

Sociology Tutoring

My undergraduate coursework included classical and modern sociology, the sociology of labor, and environmental sociology. However, much of what I do intersects and necessarily involves some of the same problems addressed by sociologists. This includes my background in development theory, sociocultural anthropology and political economy.

Philosophy Tutoring

My long-term passion and career is philosophy. My graduate degree is with the philosophy department at GWU, where I taught multiple philosophy classes. I recently presented my first conference paper at Social Ontology 2024 at Duke University, and I will pursue a PhD. in philosophy within the next two years. I could list all the courses I've taken, but trust that I can provide tutoring analogous to a professor's office hours.

Anthropology Tutoring

I can provide tutoring in socio-cultural, political, and philosophical anthropology. I also have proficiencies in the anthropology of race and sovereignty. My greatest strength here is that, like sociology, my own My concrete experience tutoring in these subjects only extends to organizing // leading study groups. I have taken all the classes listed above, have a familiarity with the historical canon in classical and American anthropology. I am also currently doing independent research on the Bronislaw Malinowski and the Kula Ring

Science Tutoring

Specifically, I can offer specialized tutoring in environmental science and social sciences. Part of my undergraduate degree in sustainable development required courses in agroecology and policy-oriented environmental science.

GRE Tutoring

Specifically, I offer tutoring in the GRE Analytical Writing and Verbal Reasoning sections. I scored a 164 in VR (93rd percentile) and 5.5 (98th percentile) in AW, and I have experience with participating in test-prep courses.
