Fun Facts
Outside of school, I enjoy drawing, listening to music, and playing softball. With my art, I love to challenge myself to practice new skills, such as learning to draw new objects or different textures. Regarding music, my favorite bands include Hozier, the Paper Kites, Lord Huron, and Palace. I also enjoy physical activities such as softball, which I have been playing for over 10 years and have recently started coaching.
About Me
Hello! My name is Emma and I am currently a freshman at Arizona State University majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I attended Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, and obtained my STEM Scholar Diploma after completing the STEM Program at the school.
Experience
As a member of the Math Club in my junior and senior years of high school, I volunteered weekly as a math tutor for a local elementary school. Here, I learned to adapt my knowledge of math to the mindset of sixth grade students and learned how to appeal concepts to a younger audience.
As a member of the National Honors Society in my senior year of high school, I volunteered on a few occasions as a math tutor for high school students, ranging from subjects such as Geometry to AP Calculus BC.
Approach
In my experience, I found that I was better able to understand concepts when they were defined in simpler terms and elaborated from those definitions. I also found that it was easier to approach challenges in what I learned by analyzing what I did know and using that to interpret new information. If you are looking for someone who does not throw complex words at the wall and hope it sticks, I would suit you well.
