Fun Facts

Two things I love are NBA basketball and cooking. I've been a lifelong lover of history, but my earliest historical study was reading sports records books and biographies of my favorite players when I was a kid. Now, if I'm not reading a novel, I'm reading a recipe!

About Me

I am a writer and musician based in Chicago. I have had short stories, poems, and articles published in journals and online, and have been playing guitar and composing music for more than 20 years. In my spare time, I like to play Animal Crossing with my six-year-old.

Experience

Since high school, I was the person people relied on for proofreading papers, important emails, and cover letters. I've worked in "edutainment," writing articles for Cracked.com and Mental Floss. I'm a published writer and working musician. I've composed music in multiple genres, including pop, rock, punk, jazz, classical, and fusion.

Approach

When I was in school, both of my parents tirelessly helped me with my homework. They also encouraged reading and learning beyond what was assigned in school. I believe that students getting help outside the classroom is not a luxury for the select few, it is foundational to a good education. I'm here to help with studies, but I'm also here to listen and encourage.

Homework Coach Tutoring

Learning is fun, therefore, homework doesn't have to be a chore. I understand workloads increase from elementary to middle school, and being responsible for homework is a big step before transitioning to high school. I'm here to help with organization and motivation.

Social Studies Tutoring

In college, I minored in Anthropology. I am well-read in and passionate about history, sociology, and geography. I believe the work of becoming a good citizen starts in elementary school, and that the more we learn about the world around us and the people in it, the greater our ability to succeed in navigating that world.

Reading Tutoring

I am an enthusiastic reader, and believe forming good reading habits in elementary school is crucial. Not to mention—children's literature is fun! I have a six-year-old son, who is a new reader himself. Our favorite authors are Mo Willems, Aaron Reynolds, and Karen Beaumont.

Music Theory Tutoring

Almost anyone can play guitar, but very few guitarists can read music. Still fewer can read three different clefs, and then explain the Nashville Number System. I've been playing and composing music in multiple genres—rock, jazz, classical, and anything in between—for more than 20 years, and talking about music theory is what I do with my friends for fun.

Guitar Tutoring

I've been playing guitar and bass since before the century turned. I've played in rock bands, jazz bands, orchestras, and I've produced multiple albums. Whatever your playing style, I'm here to help.
