Fun Facts
I work at latch-hook rugs from time to time. I love jigsaw puzzles and play at euchre. I don't have a cribbage board or a steady stream of those who like to play that now. I also like to walk about and observe things, drawing tangents that bemuse me.
About Me
I went through K at a Lutheran school, 1-3 at a public school, 4-5 at a different Lutheran school, 6-7 at yet a different Lutheran school, and finished with 8 at the K Lutheran school. I graduated from Arroyo High School in El Monte, California in 1987. I acquired my Biblical Languages major with a smattering of psychology, sociology, anthropology, and philosophy, earning a BA in 1991 from Concordia University Irvine. I earned my MDiv from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 1996. I served as a pastor for a while, but I burned myself out. The Greek and Latin roots made me suited for medical transcription, and I learned a lot of things about the human body, but I never took anatomy or physiology. I did get a lot of hospital-based experience of words but without the touch of the surgeon or the relationships of the doctor-patient kind. I get tired of looking at things clinically from under some rock. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are too slow to build a case for the existence of the human being treated by the doctor. We get a bit numb, with so much clinical detachment. We get to be a bit thick-skinned to other people's pain and get floored by our own. It's a bit disturbing at times the way that works. Never forget that they have their real pains and difficulties. Sometimes they die. We as transcriptionists never got involved. Due to non-disclosure agreements, we don't get to say how we were involved in those things. We cope with it the best we can and pray silently.
Experience
I worked with Teen Tutors in my 11th grade year. I have a way of explaining clearly the way through the fog. I don't need a lot of time, which means I probably won't make a lot of money here. I worked also at Sylvan with 3rd through 6th-grade material in mathematics. You don't need to have a certain kind of name or a certain kind of appearance to benefit. I don't need my name and my appearance either. Faceless Skeletor can help you better than a guy needing to keep up appearances before
Approach
I learned one way. You are currently being taught a current way. We need to find out how you learn and try to accommodate how you will get it. With a can-do attitude and a bit of fun, we will get you up to speed as quickly as we can. You need improvement and mental discipline more than I need to milk your situation for my financial benefit. Am I right? Let's get started!
Request Me NowPre Algebra Tutoring
Very good math student in high school. There is a process of working with the numbers correctly, and the relationships among the numbers never changes. The things we do in math we do because they lead to correct information. We set up the equations based upon known information, solve them, and then get to the information we need.
Algebra Tutoring
With story problems, we have countable things. When we move to algebra, we have variables instead of things. It's like a story problem, but we don't know what things they are. The variables are placeholders. The ways of solving equations you already worked on with story problems. It's a matter of displaying the information according to accepted form.
Algebra II Tutoring
Algebra is a progressive discipline. There is a lot more graphing, picturing quadratic equations and linear functions in Algebra II. It's doable. We will work on clear and concise understanding, sweep away issues that keep you from understanding, and see where these things are applied.
Economics Tutoring
I took economics in high school. I understand the basics and read The Economist. This is a big world with lots of interconnected things in it. One thing necessarily affects something else. Where do the effects become negligible from its source?
Homework Coach Tutoring
No matter what the subject, there is a way to structure your time, your workspace, your general environment, and your focus to get things done. Mental and physical discipline, even including what you eat and how much sleep you get, can affect the ease of completing assignments. I had challenges in high school and college. I know how to deal with less than optimal. I made the grades.
Psychology Tutoring
Psychology 101, Personality Theory, Counseling Psychology.
Middle School Math Tutoring
The basic operations of math follow rules. The rules are based upon the fixed relationships among numbers that don't ever change. This is why math is so useful and we use math in describing so many things. We will work on where the problems are, emphasizing the rules and the process.
Math Tutoring
The slow and steady way to make the math stick. Your book, supplement the teacher's way with some additional reinforcement. Anticipate success. The rules of math are not as hard as you think.
Music Theory Tutoring
The notes, the staffs, the timing, the key signatures to show the relevant scales. I am not perfect at by any means, but I know what the challenges are. The beauty of music comes in structuring what otherwise could be a disturbing noise. We will examine the features and help you get down the road.
Reading Tutoring
An author intends the reader to understand what was written. We will work on understanding things by reading things. It stretches the mind to see images and concepts that are not photographed or drawn. We are only limited by our imagination. When we read, we will find out where you are. We will use your educational materials, grow your ability to understand, and discover the mental discipline we need to focus and filter through the words.
Elementary Math Tutoring
There is where you are in your current understanding and where you need to go to face the next things to learn. Every lesson will focus on your materials, the processes to learn, and the rules of doing them to effectively get to the desired information.

ESL Tutoring
The words of a language are constructed out of parts. The principles of these issues are governed by morphology (shape of words). The words are arranged in set patterns according to its syntax. The meaning is received and sent when the words make sense to both parties to a communication. I have been exposed to Spanish, French, German, Classical Greek, and Biblical Hebrew. We will work on valuing the way English does it as we compare its way to your original language's way.
Earth Science Tutoring
Basic earth science is about the things that are on this planet. Basics of environment, geology, the water cycle and its relationship to plants and animals past and present. I don't really stake a claim on creation or evolution. Those issues come up, and we can talk, but the facts don't require a consistent opinion 100% of the time.
5th Grade Math Tutoring
I taught remedial math to one cohort at this level.
6th Grade Math Tutoring
I taught remedial math to one cohort at this level.
