Fun Facts

In my spare time, I love playing Spades and Level-5 chess at https://www.chess.com. Additionally, I enjoy creating Khan Academy-style STEM videos ( including at least 10 introductory electronics videos ) on behalf of impoverished students living throughout the Republic of Liberia.

About Me

In 2004, I became the 2nd African American student to earn a degree in physics ( chemistry minor ) from the charleston">College of Charleston in beautiful Charleston, SC. As an undergraduate student, I worked as an introductory physics and chemistry tutor when time permitted. I went on to take the Medical College Admission Test, and in addition to earning scores of " 9 " on the Verbal Reasoning and Physical Sciences portions of the test, I scored within the top 2% of test takers on the former Analytical Writing section. A few years later, I matriculated into a 1-year post-back program designed for non-traditional students entering medical school...and I HATED IT. In 2018, I got the teaching bug, and I took and passed the Praxis 2 Secondary Physics Exam with a composite score of 154. This permitted me to teach secondary physics anywhere in the United States. Unfortunately, the pandemic put these aspirations on hold, but I soon learned about the endless opportunities to teach online. It is my wish to expand upon the fond experiences I've had within classroom settings to the world of online learning.

Experience

Most recently, I worked as a mathematics instructor at the Sylvan Learning Center in Anderson, SC. There, I worked with you ages 7 to 15, and I briefly tutored an 11th-grade student in physics remotely via Zoom.

Approach

My approach is to use carefully crafted questions throughout lectures to make the learning experience a mutual one as opposed to having students feel as if they're watching a frightening movie. These experiences are followed by reinforcement exercises as well as periodic appraisals of progress.
