About Me
I am a Senior at Stony Brook University pursuing a B.S in Chemistry (May 2012). Currently, I am performing research in monodentate phosphorus ligands in Professor Ojima's Organic Chemistry Lab. I will be attending New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) in the Fall of this year. I hope to become a Physician one day, preferably specializing in Radiology or Anesthesiology.
I have had plenty experience in suffolk">tutoring at this point in my life. I was a Teacher Assistant for General Chemistry Lab for Winter 2012 and Summer 2011. I was also a Teacher Assistant for General Chemistry I in Fall 2011. Up until recently, I was employed by the University as a suffolk">Tutor for General Chemistry, however, due to fiscal budget issues, the program was discontinued.
I take a very overall approach in suffolk">tutoring a student. I first make sure that he/she is organized and taking proper notes in class. That was key for my success because actively taking notes is better for retaining knowledge. I will check this periodically. To the actual suffolk">tutoring, I like to go over the material again to reinforce the principles of the material. Finally, and I feel most important, going over practice problems. I prefer to dedicate most of the time to this because this is honestly the best way to learn and do well in these classes. However, while going over problems, I do not do the problems for the student and I do not give them the answers. I will ask them questions which will help them to get the answer; once the student has learn to do the problem on their own, then we can be confident the material has be taught effectively.
