Fun Facts
Who would have known that a college math teacher in the Philippines would end up teaching high school in America? In 1999, I was part of the very first batch of Filipino teachers recruited to the U.S. — perhaps it was luck, maybe it was blessings from above, but it turned into the adventure of a lifetime.
About Me
I graduated with a degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering from Saint Louis University, one of the top universities in the Philippines. I had a successful career as a high school mathematics teacher for many years. Teaching has always been my passion—I love helping students discover that math can be understood and even enjoyed when explained with patience and clarity.
Life brought me to make a difficult but important choice: I stepped away from the classroom to care for my ill daughter and now my ageing parents. While caregiving is a meaningful chapter, my heart has always remained in education. I continue to find opportunities where I can share my skills, support learning, and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Experience
I taught for 17 years in the East Side Union High School District, a Title I school serving a diverse student population. My work focused on teaching Integrated Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry to students in grades 9 through 12. The majority of the classes I had were sheltered classes designed to support English learners. In addition to classroom teaching, I also served as a teacher support for remediation classes, helping students strengthen foundational skills and gain confidence.
Approach
My teaching approach has always been consultative—I focus on understanding where students are, listening to their challenges, and guiding them step by step toward mastery. I see myself not only as an instructor but as a mentor and problem-solving partner, especially for students who struggle or come from diverse learning backgrounds. This approach helped me build trust with sheltered students, support English learners, and make math more accessible and less intimidating.”
