Fun Facts

I come from Mississippi, the first in my family for quite some time to have attended college outside the state. My passion is for educational and recreational technology, both of which I have benefited from on countless occasions. I also enjoy viewing and participating in live theatre and improvisation. I am very extroverted, and I love singing and playing games with my friends.

About Me

I am a second-year Computational Media major at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and I currently sport a 3.9 GPA. I serve as an ambassador for the Computational Media program as well. I intend to continue education here at Georgia Tech with a Masters of Digital Media. Long term, I hope to become a game designer or software developer.

Experience

I was a member of our school's chapter of the National Honor Society, and we focused on atlanta">tutoring our school's athletes at times that did not cause them to miss practices for their sport. I continued to serve as a National Honor Society atlanta">tutor for as long as I was able. I thoroughly enjoyed that experience, and I realized that I should continue atlanta">tutoring at every opportunity. I have since served numerous times as an unofficial long-term or short-term atlanta">tutor to friends and family.

Approach

I am a firm believer in the notion that, in order for a student to understand the material, he or she must also understand the underlying reasoning behind it. I apply this concept to all subjects. For example, in math, learning the steps to solve a particular problem will get a student nowhere if he or she does not know what he or she is doing with each step. I also employ concrete, down-to-earth examples to explain the abstract concepts that accompany every subject.

Python Tutoring

I taught myself Python 2 and 3 (with help from CodeAcademy for 2), and use it occasionally for day-to-day programming activities. I have tutored Python for a while, and thus am quite familiar with its specific learning curve.

Java Tutoring

I have extensive experience in Java, having taken four courses on it, with very high scores in all. I made a 5 on the AP Computer Science Exam, which uses Java. I use Java often in my free time, and help teach it to others.

Macintosh Tutoring

I used Mac OSX all the way through high school, and still occasionally use Mac computers for design and other purposes whose primary programs operate best on OSX. I am familiar with all recent OSX versions (Lion - Yosemite).

MATLAB Tutoring

I took a MATLAB course at Georgia Tech, in which I got a very high A. I still occasionally use the language, primarily for large data operations and I/O number crunching. I am very well versed in the language as well as how it is taught at GT.

Microsoft Windows Tutoring

I have used the Windows Operating System for most of my life (including currently). Since I use it very often on a daily basis, I am very familiar with all versions XP - 10, including come Command Prompt terminal operations.

Computer Programming Tutoring

Computer programming is a passion of mine. I have received A's in every course I have taken on the subject, and I often use it in my free time. I also frequently serve as an unofficial tutor on the subject to my peers.

Computer Science Tutoring

I have taken many Computer Science courses, scoring a high A and top exam scores in all. It is a passion of mine, reflected by my major's being a hybrid major involving Computer Science. I both use and explain its concepts to my friends often.

C Tutoring

I am currently halfway through a course teaching C for the Gameboy Advance (using emulators to run code). I have a solid grasp of the material, and can teach C effectively, provided it does not involve more technical topics (such as device drivers).
