Fun Facts

I am an international student in every sense of the word. I was born in Ethiopia ( where Coffee was first discovered and grows indigenously), I grew up in Kenya ( a country known for really fast, long-distance runners and home to Obama's biological father), I came to America in pursuit of my dream to become an Engineer and along the way, to help you, yes, you to crunch those numbers as easily as you crunch your Honey Nut Cheerios (It is that easy, you know) before I head off to another country t

About Me

I am a recent graduate of maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-university">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia University with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics. I have been a manhattan">tutor since my second year in a five year program between arcadia-university">Arcadia University in Glenside, PA and maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia's Engineering school. My ultimate goal is to become an Educator at the college level inspiring more girls to pursue careers in the Engineering field.

manhattan">Tutoring has been a most enriching experience and a way for me to give back to my current community. It is gratifying to me to see a student come to a manhattan">tutoring session confused and defeated but leave more at ease and empowered to carry on. Junior year of college I had the privilege of manhattan">tutoring a high school student who was struggling in her Math classes and was in jeopardy of failing. After a semester of working with her, she improved greatly and exceeded her expectations passing the class with a high grade. She was later accepted into arcadia-university">Arcadia University just as she had hoped. Seeing her achieve her goal was as much an inspiration to me as it was to her. As such, manhattan">tutoring inspires me to pursue my dream as an educator and is also an avenue for me to make a difference in the lives of students in my capacity as their manhattan">tutor and mentor.

As a student, I was an audio-visual learner and understood concepts when they were both explained and illustrated. If a teacher only talked through a concept, I would often struggle to comprehend the material. Likewise, when I manhattan">tutor my students, I try to feel for what kind of learners they are and adapt to them. In this way I am able to efficiently and effectively guide them to a deeper understanding of their class work. I also encourage them to ask questions whenever they hit hurdles as this is an active way of learning. It always makes me proud to see my students better their best and achieve their potential and I am eager to cheer them on.
