I grew up in Beijing, China, then came to the US for my PhD studies in Biology. Experiencing the culture difference is very exciting. I love raising pets, playing the piano and traveling. I used to play Taekwondo, tough but very cool!

About Me

I just graduated with a PhD degree in Biology from New York University. I’m good at Biology, Math, Chinese (native speaker), and Sciences in general. Having worked as teaching adjunct and lab mentor for 4+ years, I enjoy communicating with my students and inspiring their thinking and problem solving skills. I’m very organized, detail-oriented, responsible and patient. My career goal is to become a patent lawyer focusing on biotech and pharmaceutical sectors.

Experience

During my PhD studies, I mentored 3 undergraduates in lab for 4+ years. I taught them basic knowledge and experimental skills, and supervised them to accomplish projects in time. Under my supervision, one graduated with “honors with distinction” for thesis work, and is currently studying in medical school. I also worked as a teaching adjunct for 2+ years, giving lectures and instructing undergraduates on Biology lab techniques. Seeing their excitement and eagerness to explore was very rewarding.

Approach

From elementary school to high school, I’ve never been the best student in class at the very beginning, but always ended up as the top 1 student consistently, which finally brought me into the best college in China. I realize my trick to catch up and excel is to keep asking questions. I’m grateful that all my teachers were very encouraging and patient in answering my questions. I want to do the same to help my students with not only the content, but also effective learning skills.
