Fun Facts
I love traveling; I have been in Peru, Spain, Canada, and France. My future destinations will be Greece and Italy. My double citizenship and ability to speak more than one language has been a wonderful asset in being able to communicate with many people and learn more every day about both the Latino and the American culture. I was the National Champion of Peru in Tae Kwon Do for two consecutive years.
About Me
I am originally from Lima, Peru and lived there for 24 years. I then lived in Madrid, Spain for a year before moving to the United States. I have attained my U.S. Citizenship and I am a graduate of The Ohio State University. My International Studies of Latin America Bachelor’s Degree focuses on the language, culture, traditions, history, literature, economics, politics, and geography of Latin American countries. I also have a Minor in Andean and Amazonian Studies which makes me very knowledgeable about the affairs of these South American regions.
A good Spanish tutor in the United States should be a person that not only knows and understands the Spanish language and the Latino culture, but also the English language and the American culture.
I have a cultural background as a Native from South America and also lived in Spain. I have several years of experience tutoring children and adults from ages 8 to 30. I speak Spanish as a first language and I am fluent in English. I volunteer for the Latino community in Ohio translating and interpreting in both English and Spanish. Also, I organize social development programs to help Latinos improve their lives. As part of my work I have translated and interpreted for The Ohio State University College of Nursing, United Way Organization, Toledo Public High Schools, Rural Opportunity Inc., First Step, and UCB Inc. I have customer service and relation experience including finances, collections, non-profit organizations, and hospitality sector.
As a Spanish tutor my goal is to understand student needs and requirements as well as their personal cultures. My approach as a Spanish tutor is to present strategies so that students can improve test taking, speaking, writing, and reading skills. Also, I serve as a cultural mediator and help the student better understand the Spanish language and the Latino world.
