About Me
Learning should be both fun and inspiring. In my nearly thirty years of teaching, atlanta">tutoring, and coaching, I’ve instructed on the middle school, high school, and college levels. While my primary fields of study are English, Reading, and Writing, I specialize in Shakespeare, Literature, and the Arts.
I started coaching thirty-one years ago when, in 1980, as a student-actor at the National Shakespeare Conservatory in New York, the faculty believed my instincts in the area of diagnosing stumbling blocks and offering potential fixes was so highly developed, even at the early age of twenty, that I became the only attending student ever hired to coach his own classmates. After graduation, I continued coaching, and eventually, started my own series of private classes and curriculum entitled Shakespeare Without Fear. This program ran for nearly twenty years all over the country--Los Angeles, Chicago, Nashville--until, as the artistic director of a professional theater, I created an arts education program, utilizing applied arts techniques and service learning, called Green Room Projects (GRP) in 2003.
Working with at-risk high school- and middle schoolers, GRP became one of the highest-awarded arts education programs in the state of Tennessee for three years running. As a result, I was asked by the Williamson County Alternative Learning Center to serve as a full-time teaching artist and English assistant--where I developed a successful reading and writing curriculum, raising students' reading averages two or more grade levels.
I was also invited to serve on the faculties of belmont">belmont-university">belmont">Belmont University--where I taught Shakespeare and collaborative theater and improvisation--and the Nashville Film Institute as well as a frequent guest lecturer for Vanderbilt University, teaching directing and casting actors for film.
Because the majority of my education experience has been in the field of performing and visual arts, I bring a special approach to atlanta">tutoring that is unlike most. My
