Fun Facts
“Grandma Deng is finally in the 21st century!” my friends often exclaim when they see my using new technology, like smartphones and social media. They joke this way because I am obsessed with everything old.
By “old things” I mean traditional Chinese culture and art. Whether I’m singing Peking Opera, performing a traditional tea ceremony or reciting ancient Chinese Tang Dynasty poetry, I believe that participating in traditional culture provides a window and connects me into ancient times.
About Me
I am a Freshman intended Math Econ and Economics major and English minor in New York University. I am in Class of 2018. I just finished my first semester and my GPA is 3.93 out of 4.0. I want to be an accountant because I am really sensitive to numbers and I am a person who loves organizing things like files and data.
Experience
In addition to a strong technical base, I had volunteer teaching experience on Chinese, Mathematics and Music. I enjoy tutoring students and helping them build confidence in their ability to achieve, both academically and socially. I clearly remembered that how excited I was when my first student who used to be an inferior student got full mark in his Algebra assignment. That's what teaching and tutoring really mean!
Approach
As a student, I know what a typical student really need. What they need is not simply an answer to finish the homework but also a method. As a tutor, I do not only teach my students the answer but also the method. Make sure that they understand how to answer this kind of questions and give them more practices. Also, I give my students model test or quiz to prepare for a real test. I am a patient and responsible person and I believe my student will make a lot of progress after the tutoring.

Chinese Tutoring
Chinese is my native language. I started to learn it when I was born. Also, I am an editor of a online magazine called China tinge. Also, I have done volunteer teaching on Chinese before which is included in my resume.
College Algebra Tutoring
I am actually a Freshman in New York University and my intended majors are Economics and Mathematics. I have already taken Math for Econ I which is an equivalent to Calculus I&II last semester (Grade A-) and am currently taking MFE II this semester. I was a researcher focused on mathematics in Pioneer Research Program. During the summer and fall in 2013, I conducted individual college-level Combinatorics and Graph Theory research project with Davidson College Math Prof Carl Yerger and our topic is graph pebbling. Although this topic is expertise and little-known, it requires a lot of basic knowledge in Mathematics, Statistics (pre-college level and college level) to complete the project. I got 760 on my SATI Math exam and 700 on my SAT subject exam. From the beginning year to the end in my high school, my math exam scores are always above 90 points.
