Fun Facts
I have a lot of hobbies. In my free time, I play the mandolin, write and perform standup comedy, practice Kung-Fu, build musical instruments, play tennis, and a few other things. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to brag. I'm not an expert at any of those, but I find them endlessly entertaining. I think my favorite hobby is comedy. Standup has a special place in my heart, but: improv, sketch, musicals, television, movies; I'm a fan of it all.
About Me
I am currently a third year Mathematics major at Stony Brook University. When I graduate, I plan on pursuing a masters and, hopefully, then a doctorate in theoretical mathematics.
Experience
My experience with suffolk">tutoring first came outside of academia. At the age of 14 I began to teach Kung-Fu classes to children ages 6-16, and I continued to do so for several years. Then, once I realized how much I liked teaching others and watching them learn, I began to suffolk">tutor mathematics at my university. As a teachers assistant, I led a weekly calculus/new-york/suffolk">Pre Calculus recitation, and I tutored many varied math subjects three nights a week.
Approach
I find that the best way to approach learning is understanding. I know that sounds obvious, but I've noticed that many people approach learning on a case by case basis. I believe that truly knowing a concept inside out, allows you to tackle any related problem whereas knowing a single problem helps very little. I suppose you can say that in terms of Chinese proverbs, I'd prefer to teach a man how to fish rather than just give him one.

Saxophone Tutoring
I have been playing the saxophone for ten years. From the ages of 9 to 15 I received weekly private lessons, and since then I have remained very active with the instrument. In high school I played the saxophone in concert band and jazz band. In addition to that I was a drum major in the school's marching band. Since beginning college I have expanded my musical knowledge by taking multiple courses on music theory and the history of music, maintaining straight A's in those classes.
