Fun Facts
During my junior year of college, I spent a semester studying abroad in Rome, Italy. In my spare time, I enjoy knitting, reading, and running. Last August, I ran my first half marathon, and I'm hoping to run another one this summer.
About Me
I recently graduated from chicago">Loyola University Chicago with a B.S. in Psychology and minors in Communication and English. In August, I will be returning to Loyola to earn my Master of Social Work. Ultimately, I hope to become a clinical social worker with a focus on children and families.
Since September of 2010, I have been chicago">tutoring third through fifth graders at Youth Organizations Umbrella in Evanston, Illinois. There, I led a group of children (usually third graders) in academic activities and helped them with homework. As part of my internship at Howard Area Community Center in the Spring 2012 semester, I also worked as a chicago">tutor and mentor with fifth through eighth graders at the Community Center's after-school program in a CPS school on Chicago's north side. Now that I am working with Frog chicago">Tutoring, I look forward to the further chicago">tutoring experiences that will be coming my way.
My past chicago">tutoring experience has taught me that it is important to show a student how their material relates to other aspects of their life, as many students, including myself when I was young, don't understand why they need to learn the information taught to them at school. My experience has also taught me that discovering the root of an academic problem, such as dislike of a teacher or a lack of motivation to do homework, is important, so I try to figure out what other aspects might be hindering the student's performance. I also try to bring a positive attitude and a good sense of humor to the chicago">tutoring situation, as schoolwork can be very frustrating.
