Fun Facts

I have been practicing fine arts since the age of 9. However, I have only started working with digital art since I entered college. I pride myself in being able to catch on to different mediums quickly but I have only really mastered oil painting. Since entering college, I have dabbled in video editing, programming, computer drawings, and typography. While I love art, I have found that I want to explore other facets of my self before jumping in to a career.

About Me

I am a Junior Studio Arts major, Multimedia emphasis as well as a Business and Education minor. I hope to be a high school teacher but I am open to where life takes me. I have a GPA of 3.87 as of Fall 2012. I was raised in a strict household where grades were held in a very high regard, therefore, I have always worked hard in my academic career. As I have gotten older, my parents' motivation and drive have become embedded in to my own character.

I have tutored Financial Accounting at the Learning resource center at my school for the past year. In this year, I have seen many different kinds of students: some have no motivation, others have a slower processing speed which makes it difficult for them to keep up in class. In my experience, every student had the ability to grasp the material. The amount of time and effort that goes into it is the only thing that varies from person to person. Currently, I am a research assistant as well as a teacher's aide for Professor Lapayese in the School of Education at Loyola Marymount so I am constantly learning about new teaching techniques and about the field of education in general.

As I said earlier, I have seen a range of different kind of students. Therefore, I have had to teach and explain things in different ways. Every person learns differently so no one method will work every time. It is the tutor's job to understand their student and to adapt their teaching methods to suit that student's needs. The only thing that I make consistent with every student is that they should always hold the pencil. Because I will not be there while they take their tests or while they are in class, it is critical that I teach the student the process of critical thinking and breaking down problems. Therefore, when they are taking a test, they will know how to look at the problem in front of them and figure out how to work through it.
