Fun Facts
One thing about me is that I am an avid college football fan, and I always cheer for my ASU Sundevils. I am a very active fan, and I have been told repeatedly that I may, at times, get too emotionally invested in a particular game; but I'm not convinced. I also really enjoy playing all kinds of board games and card games, and I am easily enticed by a new jigsaw puzzle.
About Me
I am a sophomore honors student studying Biochemistry with a medicinal concentration at Arizona State University. After I graduate from ASU I intend to attend medical school to obtain my M.D. and begin to practice medicine professionally. After obtaining my M.D., my goal is to be able to work with NGOs both domestically and abroad in combating the medical challenges faced by the people in economically poor areas.
Throughout high school, I worked as a private phoenix">tutor for other students with biology, chemistry, and math as my primary focus. I have continued to phoenix">tutor in math and science through my time at Arizona States, dedicating my time to one-on-one phoenix">tutoring focusing on understanding concepts rather than just simple memorization. I have now become employed at Arizona State as a writing phoenix">tutor for Barrett, The Honors College specializing in helping honors students formulate thesis-based argumentative essays as well as with any other assignments they may have in their classes.
I believe that, ultimately, the goal of phoenix">tutoring is to give students the skills and confidence that they need to succeed on their own so that they no longer need the guidance of a phoenix">tutor. And this is the approach that I take when I phoenix">tutor. I focus on identifying students' strengths and abilities first and build upon those so that the learning power remains in the hands of the student, not mine. I view my role as a phoenix">tutor, not as an instructor, but as guide and mentor to encourage students to desire to perform their best for their own sake and to equip them with the tool, skills, and confidence needed to become self-learners. If I can instill in a student the confidence and skills required to successfully master a topic, then I feel like my job has been well accomplished.
