Fun Facts

Before I made the switch to education and math, I was a regional airline pilot. My number 1 passion in life growing up was flying. I love to fly!!! I still do but now I am married with a 2 year old son and 2 adorable fluffy Miniature Schnauzers. Being away from home was horrible so I had to find a new career that let me be home every night. I also like playing soccer and banging on my drumset in the basement.

About Me

I am currently going to graduate school at Augsburg to obtain my teaching license in 5-12 grade mathematics. I am also attending Metro State University to get my required math classes done. It's a lot cheaper to do it that way. I plan on finishing my licensure by mid 2017 and in the mean time I plan to substitute teach and minneapolis">tutor and do whatever else I can to help prepare me to enter the world of education.

Experience

As far as structured minneapolis">tutoring goes I am a beginner. However, I have always helped my friends (or anyone that would ask from class) with their math or other subjects if I could.

Approach

My approach to minneapolis">tutoring will be dynamic. One thing I did not learn in middle or high school was to love (or even like) to learn. I want to open students mind to learning as a life long goal and free the word "learning" from some of the negative connotations that seem to be associated with it. Long story short, it is my goal to make learning (regardless of subject) enjoyable, rewarding, and attainable and to demonstrate to students that it is ok to struggle through the process.

Pre Calculus Tutoring

I struggled through this class as well but understood a lot of the important concepts that one needs to take forward into the world of calculus and beyond. Again, much like Algebra II at a lot of schools.

Pre Algebra Tutoring

Basic Algebra where the foundation is set for future math classes. Without it, math seems to become increasingly daunting as you progress through upper level math. Having a strong foundation however, will make future math courses that much easier.

Math Advance Tutoring

I'm not sure what this math course is.

Math Tutoring

The whole reason I'm going back to school....to be a math teacher.

Geometry Tutoring

Only dealt with this in 10th grade. Relies a lot on theorems but understanding the concepts is key here. For me, memorizing a bunch of theorems didn't mean much to me if I couldn't apply them. 16 years later, I can still recall a ton of concepts but I can't name them. Even so, I can still get through and help others with these kinds of problems.

Algebra II Tutoring

Advanced algebra starts getting into the pre-calculus aspects of math. My algebra II started with pre-calculus. Math is very foundational so this is an important place to pay attention to if you want to keep going in math.

Calculus Tutoring

Working on this in college now. I feel that I can help people with the basic concepts of calculus with limit taking and differentiation. More advanced topics will have to wait until my calculus II class this summer.

Calculus AP Tutoring

I will better suited for this topic once I'm in my calculus II class this summer. More to come on that later.

Algebra Tutoring

Use algebra all of the time in upper level math. In fact, algebra is one of the main problems in calculus. By the time we get there, our algebra skills need dusting off to be able to do the calculus.

Trigonometry Tutoring

Took Trig in high school and college. Trig is an important component of pre-calculus and calculus. I struggled with trig so I have a good understanding of where some of the pitfalls are.

Elementary Math Tutoring

I'm going to school for my math teaching license and since math is SO foundational I think it is important to start with the basics. Also, it is important to make math fun at an early so that students don't develop math anxiety in their later life!

Drums Tutoring

I have played the drums on and off for 20 years. It is a great way to relieve stress and have fun doing it. Plus, it gives you great coordination skills and makes you look super cool!
