Fun Facts

My hobbies include reading, photography, hiking, tennis, cooking, going to concerts and other live performances, playing the violin, and traveling. I have traveled abroad twice, and one of my life goals is to visit all seven continents, including Antarctica. I have two younger brothers ages 13 and 16, two dogs (including a new rescue puppy), and a cat. I am a staunch supporter of the Oxford Comma and funny mnemonic devices.

About Me

I am 18 years old and a sophomore at the Barrett Honors College at ASU. I am currently studying political science and Italian, and eventually hope to add sociology to my degree. After college, I plan to go to graduate school to become either a high school education/arizona/phoenix">special education teacher or a lawyer specializing in advocacy for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

I have extensive experience as both a paid and an unpaid phoenix">tutor. My past students have been from all levels of school and in all subjects, but I specialize in the liberal arts. Most recently, I successfully tutored a seventh grade boy in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies for approximately five hours a week, and helped him improve his study and organizational skills, which were detrimental to his overall grades. In middle school, I tutored Spanish, and my student's grades improved from a D to an A. I also provide feedback on essays, research papers, and other written assignments to my students and as a favor for my friends. Additionally, I spent two years in high school as a student teacher in my school's education/arizona/phoenix">special education classrooms, where students had intellectual and developmental disabilities including Down Syndrome, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy. I am completely comfortable with people in the special needs population of all ages, and would be more than happy to include them in my client base.

When phoenix">tutoring, my priority is adjusting my phoenix">tutoring style to accommodate my student's individual needs, interests, and learning style. I emphasize organizational and study skills such as making flashcards to memorize information, asking a teacher for help when it is needed, spreading studying over several nights rather than cramming, and integrating as many learning styles (for example: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) into studying as possible, as the crossover of information in the different styles helps students learn it more effectively for the long-term. I always try to incorporate positive feedback when studying. With younger students, I use age appropriate learning games and, when possible, include information from other subjects they are studying into other assignments to reinforce concepts so that we take advantage of every learning opportunity.
