Fun Facts
I teach full time but when I am not teaching, you'll find me reading, gardening, dancing or fishing. I am much better at the reading and gardening than I am at the dancing or fishing but I don't let that stop me. I've been known to dance around while I clean house and although I fish quite often, I have to be truthful and say that I've never caught I fish!
About Me
My goal is for my students to enjoy academic success. Many students struggle through subjects trying to study and yet not getting the grades they would like. At this point frustration sets in for both students and parents. I work to show students they can learn and succeed. Once a student knows she/he can learn, then she/he does learn.
I began fresno">tutoring as an undergraduate student. When I got into my upper division courses, I became an SI (Supplemental Instruction) Leader and began working with groups of students. After graduation I earned my California Teaching Credential and began teaching elementary school in Long Beach Unified School District. About 10 years ago I decided to go back and get my Master's Degree in Political Science and I began teaching Political Science in college. I work with students every day in large group instruction (over 200 in a class), in smaller classes of 30-100 students, and one-on-one with students in my office.
My approach to teaching is quite simple. The critical first step is to figure out what students know about the subject or concept and then determine at what point they no longer understand. Once I know what the student does know and where the student is struggling, we work together to move forward from that point allowing us to build on a solid foundation. I like to use lots of examples connecting content to current knowledge and I stop frequently to check for understanding.
