About Me

My name is Adjwoa Acheampong. I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching, Early Childhood Education from maryland/towson">towson-university">maryland/towson">Towson University and I hold a Bachelor's in Psychology and a minor in Public Health from Temple University. I want to be a 1st grade teacher and am currently a teacher intern in Howard County. Currently I am in a kindergarten classroom. I will graduate in this month. I hope to one day get a certification as a Reading Specialist or an English Language Instructor.

I have worked with students in many capacities. As previously stated, I currently teach in a kindergarten classroom and was teaching in first grade until March. I have worked maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutoring primary students at the Norris Homes Projects in Philadelphia. Additionally, in Philadelphia, I worked maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutoring and mentoring high shcool students in the Upward Bound program for 3 years. I have also worked as a maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutor informally with many of my family members and family friends.

My maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutoring approach is truly based on the student and what works best for them. With primary students I try to do a lot of hands on activities, as they may not be developmentally ready to think abstractly. This means using counters and blcoks during math, or pictures cards when working on reading. However best that particular student learns is how I approach the lessons. I always want my students to be relaxed and open to learning, which may mean that I will halt a lesson that is frustrating a student and review a previous one. Learning should be fun and I try to make sure that I show that through my lessons and how I engage my students.
