Fun Facts

I love a variety of activities from reading to sports to just enjoying time with friends, but perhaps my favorite is spending time in the outdoors. I grew up camping with my family, and love getting away into the wilderness for a few days. I have been blessed with quite a few opportunities to travel, having been to about 10 different countries, and most parts of the US. I lived in Japan for four years with my family; a very unique and perspective changing experience. I am starting biomedical eng

About Me

I am a junior in the Ira A. fulton">Fulton Schools of Engineering and Barrett honors college at ASU. My major is in biomedical engineering (BME) and I'm minoring in Spanish. I am from rochester">Rochester Hills, Michigan, and came to ASU in 2009 as a freshman. Recently I was admitted to the BME masters program at ASU, and after graduation I will continue on to obtain my MS. I would eventually like to work as an engineer for a medical device company, but I could also see myself teaching and doing research at a university, should I decide to go on to get a PhD.

My phoenix">tutoring experience is primarily from teaching fellow students difficult concepts throughout high school and college. Often I find myself being approached for help when, as is too often the case, the teacher or professor is unable to effectively explain the material. This has most often been the case in physics, for which I have always had a natural interest and affinity, but has also been true of other subjects including math, chemistry and Spanish. As a senior in High School I tutored an exchange student from Spain in physics on a consistent basis throughout the year. She had difficulty with both the language barrier and the material, and I was able to help her with both.

I truly believe every student has the capability of being successful in any subject, as long as it is taught in a way that aligns with his or her learning style. Teachers are typically forced into a "one size fits all" approach, usually involving lots of memorization. I base my phoenix">tutoring on problem solving, regardless of subject. This has two effects; first off it immediately demonstrates exactly why the material is being taught and how it is supposed to be applied. Second, it eliminates the rote memorization of the classroom, and allows the student to approach the material in a way that makes sense to them. I will always teach material before it is introduced in class, to keep the student one step ahead at all times.
