About Me
Hi, I'm Kathy, an Economics major at maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-college">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia College (CC'15). In school, I am a clarinetist of the University Orchestra, a coordinator for Health Education and Resources for Teens, and a sister of the sorority Alpha Chi Omega. Currently, I am on the Dean's List and a Named Scholar.
I had extensive manhattan">tutoring experience during my high school years. I privately tutored several students at home for math, English, and science subjects. During my senior year in high school, I was hired as a manhattan">tutor at The manhattan">Tutoring Center, where I taught students K-12 in math, reading, and writing. I also taught piano lessons to beginners. Because of my love of teaching, I decided to volunteer for Community Impact's Health Education and Resources for Teens, a program in which I teach a class of sixth graders about health, nutrition, and fitness. The directors of the program noticed by enthusiasm for teaching and decided to promote me to become a coordinator!
My approach to manhattan">tutoring is to teach "why," because when I was a student, I felt that teachers would give me basic formulas without ever explaining them to me. I believe that as long as students understand the "why," they would never need to memorize a formula. Also, I want to make sure that every student understands how the concepts they learn can apply to their lives. Everything is relevant and useful!
