I'm an Ohioan who has adopted Washington, DC as her home for the past 7 years, except for a few stints overseas. But I am still discovering new things about this city! I love baking, enjoy biking around DC, am an amateur genealogist, and badly want to learn French. You can often find me at the local pool or library!
About Me
I'm a nonprofit development professional with over 4 years experience working in education and international development. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from washington-university">George washington-university">Washington University, where I studied international affairs, and will be continuing my studies this fall in a Masters program in DC or Boston. I feel passionate about education and want to see children worldwide have the same opportunity to learn!
Experience
I've worked in schools and education nonprofits in DC and abroad over the past six years. I have experience working in afterschool programs as a washington-dc">tutor in DC public schools with K-5 students, teaching and washington-dc">tutoring ESL to adult learners in DC, washington-dc">tutoring and co-teaching a 3rd grade classroom in Nicaragua, and teaching a 2nd grade class based on Common Core standards in Liberia.
Approach
The first lesson I teach any student is that intelligence is malleable; there is no such thing as being "bad" at a particular subject! I also take the time to craft an individualized learning plan attuned to a student’s needs, as well as identify a variety of resources and lesson plan strategies that fit their learning style. I believe student engagement and enthusiasm is critical to long term skill development.
