Fun Facts
I love being outside and enjoying the outdoors - I'm a big gardener. I also love to read and I'm almost always listening to a book or a podcast. I make jewelry and I like to paint. I'm from North Carolina so I also love watching college basketball (go Heels!!).
About Me
I have Master's Degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education. I graduated in 2009 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, so I'm a Tar Heel. After college I served two years with AmeriCorps. I have been working with children most of my adult life and have found them to be my passion.
I am also certified in the Wilson Reading System Level 1.
Experience
I taught for 5 years in public schools in DC. I have also worked at a non-profit teaching high school students web-development. I have experience teaching all age levels.
Approach
I find that the best way to help students learn is to get to know them. Relationships can create a positive learning environment that enable students to really intake information. I would like to get to know the student's likes and dislikes so that we can find an approach to learning each subject that makes sense to the student. I believe that every person can learn and that they should be given every opportunity to do so.
