Fun Facts
I have been storytelling since kindergarten! I think stories make life more interesting. Even tough subjects like Regents prep can be light-hearted instead of stressful if there is something to be enthusiastic about.
I couldn't read well in first grade. Or second grade. The words kept moving around on the page! No one had heard of dyslexia back then.
I can't carry a tune in a bucket, but that doesn't stop me from singing - I still have fun.
About Me
I'm a high school teacher and college brooklyn">tutor. Helping people reach that "Aha! I got it!" moment is very fulfiling to me.
Everyone in school knows how to talk. Words make great toys, but sometimes pinning them down on paper makes life bumpy. I can help smooth it out.
Experience
I wrote for my high school newspaper and year book. In college I published some articles about history as well as some fiction, and I have had a children's book published.
Currently I work as a High School teacher and a College brooklyn">tutor in all writing subjects - so I've helped students write papers in Comp, Lit, History, Psychology, Education, and even Geology.
Working as a brooklyn">tutor gives me the opportunity for one-on-one interactions, which have a great impact on the student.
Approach
Having dyslexia before it was a known problem - much less a problem with a solution - taught me to think out of the box. Working around that problem led me to think that all people are smart, they just can't express themselves properly.
I use a lot of positive encouragement with my students, and remind them to look at how far they've come - use your experience as a launchpad for future success!
